The SEN Run Home golf day

For the second year running, Eynesbury’s championship golf course was the chosen venue for radio station SEN’s Run Home Golf Day.

The golfing gods must have approved because the weather on March 22 was perfect for golf as was the condition of the Eynesbury fairways.

Broadcaster and ex Melbourne Demons footy legend David Schwarz, aka the Ox; along with co host Mark Allen lead the field of more than 100 golfers, many of the SEN competition winners and listeners.

Schwarz is a golf fanatic and tries to set up the course to suit his own game and so become the winner of his own event – he lives in Sunbury and counts Eynesbury as his home ground.

He and his team did deliver a day full of banter and good cheer and there were many laughs throughout the field as the day unfolded.

There were $50,000 prizes on offer for a hole in one on each of the par 3’s which were, perhaps predictably never really threatened but provided much excitement among the would be golfing champions.

Some in the field were offered a helping hand on the 18th hole and offered the option of having the long driving champion Steve Kennedy, drive for them. Kennedy was using a custom designed driver with just 4 degrees of loft and smashing golf balls almost four hundred metres from the black tees to the fringe of the green near the homestead. It was a awesome display of force and power that left many of the golfers scratching their heads.

There was assistance available on the 10th tee too, from former Australian Masters Champion Craig Spence. Spence had less power but more accuracy and also offered golfers the chance to have their photo taken wearing his 1999 Gold jacket and freely dispensed war stories about live on the pga golfing tour.

After the golf and the usual formalities over lunch, the Run Home program was broadcast front of the homestead café, closely watched by many assembled residents.

Eynesbury General Manager, David Tapping said, “It was a great day, a lot of fun for those involved and we’re pleased that so many other people are coming to understand just how good our golf course is. I’m sure it will be the venue for many more of these events as the word spreads”.
