2020 Club Championship Wrap Up

2020 Champion – Nathan Silvey – 2020R3LeaderboardGross

2020 A grade Champion – Wes Grieg – 2020 LeaderboardR3

2020 B grade Champion – Nick Milburn – 2020BGradeLeaderboardR3

What a finish, standing on 18 tee, two players tied and 2 just one shot back, it really was anyone’s. When they stood on the first tee it was Silvey leading 2019 Champion Nathan Hodge by 1, with Rod Leetham and Nathan Leslie 6 & 7 shots further back. The front 9 pushed Silvey’s lead to 3 but it was the back 9 where it all started to happen. While it seemed a 2 horse race, birdies and doubles had the 4 players all within one shot. Silvey and Hodge had the one shot advantage but with the wind up, the drive was key. From the tee it looked like both had gone into the water, but relief for Silvey when arriving to find it was safely in the fairway and now had his chance. A shot onto the green about 20 feet would give him a comfortable 2 putt for victory to finish one ahead of Hodge and Leetham. One of the best finishes we have seen and a new name on the list of Champions!!

If you thought that was tight, how about the 4 way tie in A grade. Wes Grieg, Baiden Griffiths, Rod Leetham and Nathan Leslie all tied on 222 after 3 rounds, it was the solid last round performance from Grieg that got him the win through count back.

While all that was going on, the B grade was running away with it, Nick Milburn getting the job done by a massive 8 shots. After starting week one with a 67 nett, he put up 2 very solid rounds, including a 73 in the last to make sure no one got close.

Organizing of match

A reminder that it’s the responsibility of the player on top of the draw to make contact to organize the match. Please call the proshop to get your opponents contact number if required.

Handicaps

·       The number of strokes awarded in this competition is the difference between the players’ handicaps, on the day of play.

·       Where there are more than 18 strokes difference between players’ handicaps, the higher handicapped player will receive 2 or 3 strokes per hole where applicable, i.e. 2 strokes on rating #1 and so on.

·       Strokes are given on the holes as rated by hole index on the score cards

·       In the event of a tied match, extra holes will be played until a player wins a hole and claims the match. In this case handicap strokes start again and are given as in the original round. Please advise the proshop that you are playing extra holes and we will accommodate you.

Tees

Men:      Blue tee for all matches unless otherwise organised by both players, if you both agree to play the comp of the day you will play from that tee.

Daily Competitions

You can play your match and also play the comp of the day. Please note that if a putt is conceded in the match, it still has to be played for the competition of the day. If the putt is then missed it is still considered as being holed in the Matchplay event.

2018 Premier League

We have made it to the 2018 Premier League Grand Final where we will see THE RAG TAG take on THE SKI’S. The semi final seemed to bring the best out in everyone as we had some very high scoring games.

The Rag Tag def The Afternoon Shift 102 -100

The Ski’s def Still Running 97 – 95

In a season where 90 points was a competitive score they all came out to play but even the comp winner for the day, Thomas Blaikie couldn’t quite get his team over the line with Norm Cooney second best for the day for The Rag Tag.

The Ski’s only went in with 4 players but a consistant effort across those 4 gave them enough to get the win and into the big dance, a massive effort from a team who has finished last the two previous years. Maybe this will give some inspiration to Carlton FC next year.

The final is this Saturday, the 18th of August with the first group teeing off from 8.50am
